World Suicide Prevention Day is on the 10th of September 2023.
Brogan Group will be raising awareness through toolbox talks to our site teams in the UK and Ireland this Friday on the steps to help reduce the stigma surrounding suicide.
This will form one part of many toolbox talks that will be delivered on health and mental health issues by our site supervisors throughout the year.
In addition, we have a team of mixed-gender qualified Mental Health First Aiders in the UK who support our staff both on site and in the office.
This is backed up by a long-standing partnership with the Lighthouse Charity the only charity that provides emotional, physical, and financial well-being support to construction workers and their families.
Operating in the UK and Ireland they have an array of resources available to those in the industry and their families, including 24/7 support, Mental Health training and critical incident support. Find out more here.
The challenge in construction
Statistically, workers in construction have a 3.7 times higher risk of suicide than the national average. ([1])
In 2021, there were 399 suicides in Ireland ([2]) and over 500 suicides in the UK construction industry. ([3])
Construction workers are more at risk of committing suicide than they are from falling from height
It is for this reason we, at Brogan Group, are supporting World Suicide Prevention Day on the 10th September 2023.
