The regeneration of Dublin's Central Bank building

Central Plaza is a mixed-use scheme that came from the regeneration of Dublin’s Central Bank building.

The development has added 100,000 sq ft of office space for up to 1300 professionals, as well as multiple retail and hospitality units on the ground and basement floors. On top of this, the main contractor is constructing a landmark, two-storey, rooftop destination with a 5 star restaurant and social spaces accompanies by 360 views of the city.

The Central Plaza development is liable to pose several access challenges including tight restraints of a 0.28 hectare site and the high level of pedestrian traffic surrounding the development.

The €75 million project is due for completion later this year.

Installation

We provided the scaffold package to the redevelopment of Central Plaza on 2 elevations of the development. The project involved many challenges and found us having to use dolly towers through lightwell openings. The project required this from us as the low level roof could not take the loads imposed, therefore had to be brought down to ground level.

Additionally, we put beams along the entire length of the elevation and punched the remaining scaffold upwards off of the beams.

On the second elevation we built a large gantry to enable pedestrian access on the pathways around the development. We then erected a scaffold fan above a bike store to protect pedestrians. We worked closely with the contractor to keep costs down with the scaffold fan as opposed to Combi Safe as we weren’t up high enough to require it (8m).

The scaffold was then punched from the gantry to full height of the project.
