Unity Place campus in Milton Keynes is a 500,000 sq. ft office hub that is being built to consolidate a major bank’s offices for 6,000 employees alongside coworking space for small businesses and start-ups and retail, health, and food facilities.
The eight-storey building is arranged across four blocks connected by three atria to allow natural light into the building and views out. Parking for cars and bicycles is located at the ground floor level and in its two basement levels.
Brogan Group worked with the Main Contractor on a comprehensive access package of both powered access and scaffolding.
Early coordination meant that cast-in anchor tie plates were supplied for the concrete slab pour and installed by the main contractor, ensuring there were no clashes with post-tensioning strengthening to the floor slab.
Use of space was maximised with Brogan incorporating identical solutions across two blocks, with MBC 50 twin mast goods hoists (4.9m x 3.2m) installed alongside a 2032 single passenger/goods Hoist.
A landing ramp scaffold was constructed on the terrace of each block to allow goods access over the upstands on the roof, transported from basement Hoists servicing through voided slabs.
Brogan Group constructed large free-standing birdcage scaffold in the three closed roof naturally lit atriums to access the ceiling above the 8 stories. Side egress points were added for contractor access to weld the permanent beams and external cladding.

I can say that the experience we have had to date dealing with Brogans has been a very positive one. We have them doing scaffolding and hoists on this job and the hoists are excellent. We have a requirement for a very large twin mast which has been very useful. The service provided by Brogans’ is very good, from design to installation they have been extremely professional and also user friendly. Their drawings have been done in 3D so it has been very easy for us to visualise and review. This is the second project in a row Brogans have done for our team and we would not hesitate to use them again on a future schemes.
