The Southbank Centre project will see the installation of a new multiple pyramid-profiled glazed roofing system to the Hayward and Purcell buildings and mechanical and electrical refitting for back of house facilities.

The Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room auditoria will be refurbished to preserve the character of the venues, including renovating the walls, floors and ceilings and retaining and restoring the existing seats.

New areas will be created with new glazing on the south western corner of the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer and of the rear undercroft area adjacent to the existing Purcell Room artists’ entrance.

Installation

The Brogan Group site team successfully completed the Combi-safe UBIX Duo-pitch Roof to Hayward gallery 5 which was erected on mobile tracks and without the use of a crane. The roof spans the entirety of the Gallery Roof with hanging lifting rails to allow the replacement of the existing glass domes by the roofing contractor.

The team also erected mono-pitch roofs on the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Haywood gallery 4 with a heavy duty gantry erected on the roof with lifting beams to facilitate the moving of materials for the re-roofing works. The internal gallery halls were also fully scaffolded to allow access to the listed acoustic walls for renovation and form a large bridged structure giving access to the roof areas also.

Brogan Group supplied the 2T passenger Goods hoists which feeds the Queen Elizabeth Hall roof levels.
