10th September 2025 marks World Suicide Prevention Day and the theme for World Suicide Prevention Day for 2024-2026 is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide". This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent suicides.
The construction industry faces some of the highest levels of mental health challenges, with suicide rates significantly exceeding the national average. In the UK, construction workers are three to four times more likely to die by suicide, with over 7,000 cases being estimated in the past decade.
At Brogan Group, we recognise the importance of raising awareness. To support this, our site teams in the UK and Ireland have been delivered toolbox talks focused on suicide awareness and prevention.
These sessions are part of a wider programme of health and mental health toolbox talks that our site supervisors will continue to deliver throughout the year.
Alongside this, we are proud to have a dedicated team of qualified Mental Health First Aiders across the UK and Ireland, offering support to colleagues both on site and in our offices.
Employees are further supported through our long-standing partnership with the Lighthouse Charity – the only charity dedicated to providing emotional, physical, and financial well-being support for construction workers and their families.
Operating across the UK and Ireland, the Lighthouse Charity offers a wide range of resources, including 24/7 helplines, mental health training, and critical incident support. Find out more here.
