Great Ormond Street Hospital

Great Ormond Street Hospital’s (GOSH) new £300m Mittal Children’s Medical Centre is set to buck the recent economic downturn by becoming one of the few hospital projects to go onsite in 2009. Although the health and education sector has seen recent cutbacks, we are pleased as a company to be involved in the project of such a high profile and prestigious hospital.

The scheme has been designed by UK based architectural practice Llewelyn Davies Yeang (LDY) and sets a new benchmark for ‘green’ design.

We supplied a number of mast climbers, hoists and scaffolding for the ongoing major redevelopment works at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We have already won a number of awards for the provision of scaffolding and hoist access to the project, most recently when we won a gold award at for health and safety practise from the project’s main contractor.

We also received other site awards for our work at the renowned children’s hospital with outstanding health & safety conduct and environmental compliance throughout the project.

The new centre consists of two linked buildings to be developed in two phases. The first phase will be the construction of the Morgan Stanley Clinical Building that will feature many energy-saving technologies, including combined cooling, heating and power (CCP) units designed to achieve significant reductions in carbon emissions.

The NHS Trust has set the new centre a target of 120% carbon reduction and a renewable energy contribution of at least 60% by 2016, when the second phase of the project is due for completion.

Upon completion, the centre will provide better accommodation for families, support for disabled children, being prepared to go home and modern facilities for various departments, including Medical Day-care, Bio-medical Engineering and two new operating theatres.
