City Three Peaks Challenge

On Monday 7th September 2015, we supported the City Three Peaks abseil fundraiser in more ways than one, by taking part and assisting in the event’s organization.

40 individuals/organisations undertook a breath-taking challenge on the greatest urban mountain range –The City of London - by abseiling 30 St Mary Axe, The Leadenhall Building and 20 Fenchurch Street, otherwise known as The Gherkin, The Cheesegrater and The Walkie-Talkie, 1,916ft down to the ground below, all in one day.

Three of our Design Engineers abseiled on the day, together with other participants in a bid to raise an incredible £4 million for The Outward Bound Trust and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

Brogan not only took part, we supported it. We were asked to provide the scaffolding platforms to enable the first ever abseils to take place from the top of three of the City’s most iconic buildings. The jump from the Walkie Talkie’s Sky Gardens was particularly exciting, due to the fact that we helped build the complex design in 2014 (main contractors Canary Wharf Group and Land Securities).

The event was the longest civilian abseil in history - the three buildings have a combined height of double that of The Shard, almost equivalent to the height of 142 double-decker buses. A strict maximum of just 40 philanthropists, adventurers and entrepreneurs, scaled the peaks of their own metropolis completing the descent of each tower one after the other.
