The project comprised of an 8 billion AED (*Arab Emirates Dirham) business and residential micro city being constructed around the newly opened Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The Capital Centre will be the worlds first fully interconnected exhibition lifestyle centre and is being developed by ADNEC Group an international venue development and business company.
ADNEC Group’s portfolio currently includes the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the Gulf's largest exhibition centre; ExCeL London, the UK capital's largest exhibition centre; the Al Ain Convention Centre, a brand new development in the historic city of Al Ain, Capital Gate, the UAE capital's iconic, gravity defying tower and a number of hotel projects.
The feature tower named Capital Gate forms a major part of the Capital Centre development, the avant-garde building has a unique wave like shape and will stand 160 meters and 35 storeys tall from the West side of the world-renowned Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The structure is actually in the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower". Its incline is four times that of the Leaning Tower' of Piza!
An advanced building technique is being used to shape the tower. The Diagrid* Technology has been used on only a few high-profile international buildings, including the Hearst Tower in New York City, the Swiss Re building ("The Gherkin") in London and the CCTV headquarters tower in Beijing. The system requires less structural steel than a conventional steel frame, reducing costs and benefiting the environment. Brogan Group provided scaffolding for this impressive project.
Once complete Capital Gate will provide accommodation to the first Hyatt operated hotel in the UAE capital together with various exclusive offices in Abu Dhabi. Leaning Westward 18 degrees, the tower will not only defy gravity, but its aesthetic grandeur and technical brilliance would be a landmark for future constructions.
*Diagrid (a portmanteau of diagonal grid) is a design for constructing large buildings with steel that creates triangular structures with diagonal support beams.
