Taking inspiration from the UAE’s National tree ‘the Ghaf’, the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) service station at the Expo 2020 Dubai is now complete. The Ghaf Tree service station will serve the Expo 2020 Dubai convoy during the six months of the World Expo till 31st March 2022, and after this, in the legacy phase, the station will serve District 2020, a new urban development in Dubai.

The Ghaf tree's roots are known to extend deep into the ground and the design and build of the service station is an exoskeleton that mimics the tree's structure and acts as a support column for its canopy. Brogans’ Scope of Works were the design, erection, adaptation and dismantling of its own ‘exoskeleton’ with independent access scaffold, staircase and birdcage access scaffolding.

This scaffolding sat around a canopy made from lightweight but strong carbon fibre, allowing access for the installation of photovoltaic solar power panels which can generate up to 180 kilowatt-peak of energy per hour and meet the station's electricity need.

Alongside this birdcage access scaffolding from Brogan Group enabled the installation of Wind turbines that provide an additional 30-40 kilowatts of power, making the Ghaf Tree Station the first LEED Gold certified service station in the region.
