We are committed to making sure that all plant operatives are competent and qualified to perform in a safe and secure manner. In October 2008, 20 of our employees were trained through the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS), receiving various plant qualifications including those listed below.

Telescopic Handler

Qualification involves demonstration of the following:

Understands the standard code of signals

  • Can direct the actions of a crane moving loads of various weights by giving clear signals
  • Establish and communicate to the crane operator the weight and dimensions of loads
  • Can spot potential hazards and knows how to overcome them
  • Can determine the serviceability, maintenance and storage of lifting tackle
  • Can select the appropriate lifting tackle and can attach and detach it safely

Slinger Signaller Banksman

Qualification involves demonstration of the following:

  • A knowledge of basic slinging methods and where to obtain information and guidance on the approved methods of slinging
  • Understand the requirements of HASAW Act 1974, PUWER 1998 and LOLER 1998
  • Become competent in carrying out pre-use inspection of lifting accessories
  • Candidates will be able to identify the hazards associated with lifting operations
  • Become competent in selecting the correct equipment and safe method of slinging for loads commonly encountered in construction
  • Become competent in planning and performing a lifting operation using safe practices as laid down in Health and Safety legislation and literature
