September 10th 2026, marks World Suicide Prevention Day. The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day 2024-2026, "Changing the Narrative on Suicide," highlights the importance of reducing stigma, encouraging open conversations, and creating supportive environments that can help prevent suicide.
Suicide remains a significant public health challenge, with construction workers in the UK estimated to be three to four times more likely to die by suicide than the national average. According to The Lost City campaign, tradespeople are 26% more likely to experience mental ill health than workers in other sectors, while more than 7,000 construction workers are believed to have died by suicide over the past decade.
At Brogan Group, we recognise the importance of raising awareness and supporting the wellbeing of our workforce. To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, suicide awareness and prevention toolbox talks have been delivered to site teams across the UK and Ireland as part of our ongoing health and wellbeing programme.
Brogan Group also has qualified Mental Health First Aiders across the UK and Ireland, providing support and guidance to employees both on site and within our offices.
In addition, support is available through our long-standing partnership with the Lighthouse Charity, the only charity dedicated to providing emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families.
