When Lawns Nursery School, part of Biggleswade Academy, came to Brogan Group there was a need to rebuild their garden and play area for the 2–4-year-olds who attended the school.

As a local business to Biggleswade, with the main yard in nearby Gamlingay, Brogan were happy to oblige, very recently delivering a large stack of old Scaffolding boards to Lawns Nursery.

Sam Newhouse is the Site Agent at Lawns Nursery who will be using these boards to help in the rebuild:

“My primary intentions are to use any old/donated boards to rebuild a series of planter and raised beds but we also have mud kitchens which we need shelving for, role play construction yards for which I would like to build some little workbenches and shelf units, shelving/carcassing needed for bug hotels, shelving needed for the children's wellington boots and tiny little benches where they can change into their wellies before venturing out into the garden.”

When materials ultimately come to the end of their life Lawns Nursery like to recycle and dispose of things responsibly, as did Brogan Group with this donation of old boards.

Lawn Nursery takes inspiration from the Forest Schools philosophy from Denmark, using the outdoors as a classroom and develop an understanding of the outdoor environment, and updating the garden area helps support this way of learning.

Sam concluded: “The teachers here are always looking for ways to improve the experiences they provide to the pupils, so we are never short on projects.”
