World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.
Our Group-wide environmental policies go beyond the guiding principles of ISO 14001 that underpin it, allowing us to become leaders by example in our industry for our care and commitment to the environment and for the communities in which we work. We are on a continuous journey towards improving sustainability across the group and World Environment Day provides us with the perfect excuse to look at elements of the business that we can further improve on.
A big focus for us as a company has been to lessen our use of plastic as much as possible. Beginning with the replacement of water coolers and plastic cups with filtered taps and glasses and being spread throughout the group. We are no longer accepting plastic bags with deliveries where possible and we are enforcing a strict ban on the use of one-use plastic forks and cups within the business.
We have also been exploring avenues for staff members to car share where possible.
There are a number of new policies we are looking to implement throughout the company over the coming months in our quest to becoming greener.
