Brogan Group support ‘Simon House of Cards’ Appeal for 3rd year running

For the third year running, Brogan Group are putting forward their support to the ‘Simon House of Cards’ Appeal. According to Dublin Simon Community’s homeless facts and figures*, there are just under 9,000 people experiencing homelessness in Ireland today.

Orla Ferrie, Corporate Partnerships Executive with Simon House of Cards described the current situation they are faced with; “As we are all acutely aware, this Christmas will be a Christmas like no other. The Covid-19 pandemic and the economic shockwaves it has triggered have led to a sharp increase in the numbers of people coming to our door for help.”

Thankfully, the number of people without a home has seen a promising improvement from the same time last year when there were almost 10,397 people without homes. Astonishingly, there has also been a decline in the number of homeless people this year in particular with numbers dropping from 10,271 in January to 8,656 in September.

This progress is in no small part due to the amazing work that Dublin Simon Community do to provide meals, accommodation and support services to empower people to access and retain a home.

An improvement on homeless statistics in a year of an unprecedented public health crisis is heartening and encouraging news. However, as Orla describes, the current situation means that these services are needed now more than ever.

As committed supporters of the House of Cards Appeal at Brogan Group, we feel that in a year of coming together to support our frontline heroes and work collectively against an imposing threat, it is important to extend these efforts to assist the people and the organisations at the frontline of the homeless crisis also

Building on this year’s spirit of collective care and consideration for others, the company have also arranged food donation banks on several of our Ireland projects in support of ‘Food for Simon’, another initiative of the Dublin Simon Community.

This important initiative aims to provide food and essential items to all of Dublin Simon Community’s service users at Christmas time. We have seen a warm reaction to the collection on sites with many people keen to help and donate to the cause. We are hopeful that with the help of our employees, clients and others, we will be able to make a significant contribution to the initiative.

Orla informed us significant impact the House of Card Appeal will have this year; “by supporting the Simon House of Cards Appeal, we will raise over €600,000 and your generous donation will make a difference to the lives of thousands of vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in Ireland today.”

We hope that our support of these two important initiatives will make a difference for the people using these services this Christmas.
