The dangers that road vehicles, particularly Heavy Goods Vehicles, cause to Vulnerable Road Users, including cyclists, is difficult to appreciate without experiencing it first-hand.

This is why FORS have created the Safe Urban Driving (SUD) Course, which involves a half-day theory and a half-day on-cycle practical element. Brogan Group HGV Drivers, based out of our busy Gamlingay Depot, recently completed this course, riding in someone else’s shoes to experience what it is like to be a vulnerable road user.

Our HGV team are part of a logistical operation delivering Powered Access Machinery and Scaffolding to sites across the country. They drive through tight country lanes and hectic City Centres, and this course is another element to ensure our safety levels are up to the highest standards.

Safe Urban Driving (SUD) is an essential part of the FORS Silver accreditation that Brogan have again achieved for the 6th time in 2021. Our van drivers are also taking the ‘Van Smart’ course element with FORS, which is similar to the SUD course with a practical on-cycle element and a theory side more tailored to van driving.
