We helped build the peak of the Walkie Talkie and now we’re jumping off it to help raise £4m for charity.
On Monday 7th September 2015, we will be supporting the City Three Peaks abseil fundraiser in more ways than one, by taking part and assisting in the event’s organization.
40 individuals/organisations will undertake a breath-taking challenge on the greatest urban mountain range –The City of London - by abseiling 30 St Mary Axe, The Leadenhall Building and 20 Fenchurch Street, otherwise known as The Gherkin, The Cheesegrater and The Walkie-Talkie, 1,916ft down to the ground below, all in one day.
Three of our Design Engineers will be abseiling on the day, together with other participants in a bid to raise an incredible £4 million for The Outward Bound Trust and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).
Brogan are not only taking part, we are supporting it. We’ve been asked to provide the scaffolding platforms to enable the first ever abseils to take place from the top of three of the City’s most iconic buildings. The jump from the Walkie Talkie’s Sky Gardens will be particularly exciting due to the fact that we helped to build the complex design in 2014 (main contractors Canary Wharf Group and Land Securities).
This landmark event follows the success of the Descent of The Shard abseil in 2012, which raised £2.8m in one day. The 2015 event will be the longest civilian abseil in history - the three buildings have a combined height of double that of The Shard, almost equivalent to the height of 142 double-decker buses. A strict maximum of just 40 philanthropists, adventurers and entrepreneurs, some of the biggest names in the city, will scale the peaks of their own metropolis completing the descent of each tower one after the other.
It is set to be the most spectacular and exclusive fundraising event in the UK this year and has full support from Buckingham Palace and The Mayor of London. The event will raise life-changing funds, transforming the lives of young people as well as serving and former naval personnel and their families in the UK.
